As you can see from the feature image, LeedsBID and The Queens Hotel have got Christmas all wrapped up and tied with a bow, or they will have from 12th to 22nd December.

After last year’s spectacular light projection which saw the Gingerbread Man work his way round the hotel to give those in City Square a glimpse of the treasures within, this year the wonderful Lisa Holdsworth, one of Leeds’s finest playwrights, has written a piece on The 12 Days of Christmas, which will show the G Man making it ready for a Grand Christmas party. The trimming of the tree might need a little help from his friends, but I am sure there won’t be any shortage of willing assistants, some of which you will surely recognise.

The narrative will be provided by actor, Richard Armitage, whose father was from this great city. I have just had a look at his IMDb entry and note that his first role was 1992 in the TV series Boon, as Man in Pub, his second being This Year’s Love, where he was Smug Man at Party. I must make sure he plays me in my biopic. Since those starring roles he has been seen in the Tolkien franchise films, obviously a creature of Hobbit. This year he seems to have been on more tele programmes than Ant and Dec.

The projection has been commissioned by LeedsBID, who have once again retained Onionlab to work their magic. To see some of the things they get up to please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoAHGMLssgo Obviously if you want to see their best work, get down to City Square on the above dates, where the 8-minute projection is shown every 15 minutes between 4.30pm and 8.30pm.

I would love to know what happened at last years’s tryst between Gingerbread Man and Celia Imrie CBE, but I am sure that he will be too much of a gentleman to reveal the details and the hotel very discrete.
